Funeral services for Merwin L. “Scotty” Scott, age 76, of Kranzburg, SD, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2009, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Watertown, SD. Rev. Iver Possehl will officiate. Music will be provided by Sharon Falk as organist and Don Seim as soloist. Scotty passed away on Monday, August 10, 2009, at the hospital in Watertown. Burial will be in the Bemis Cemetery, Goodwin, SD. Military graveside honors will be provided by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion of Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Scotty’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be Scotty’s grandsons: Brandon Scott, Matt Scott, Cody Scott, Jeremy Comrie, Justin Peschong, Jaime Schmeling, and Corey Petersen, and one nephew, Blaine TeKrony. Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. and Saturday prior to services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Saturday by 9:30 a.m. for a prayer service Scotty was born on January 25, 1933, in Bemis, SD, to Vern and Tessa (Terpstra) Scott. In 1950, he graduated from high school in Goodwin, SD. After high school, he enlisted in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1961. On September 2, 1955, Scotty married Janet Alt at the Presbyterian Church in Bemis. He worked on a local farm in the Bemis area, at the creamery in White, SD, and at the Florence Elevator. He then started driving a semi-truck. On July 11, 1980, Scotty married Leone Dragt at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Watertown. He continued to drive truck for various companies around Watertown. In 1994, he retired from truck driving. He continued to make his home in Kranzburg. Scotty really enjoyed the family picnics on the Fourth of July. He was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church and the American Legion. Scotty loved to visit with people and have coffee in Goodwin. He also enjoyed word search books and traveling. Scotty is survived by his wife, Leone, of Kranzburg, SD; his children: Karla Comrie of Rapid City, SD, Kevin (Barbara) Scott of North Mankato, MN, and Kerry (Audrey) Scott of Castlewood, SD; his step-children: Kathy (Ron) Drobeck of Tucson, AZ, Laurel Egeberg of Sioux Falls, SD, LaWayne (Cindy) Egeberg of Hazen, ND, Jim (Nanette) Egeberg of Oak Park, IL, Julie Deville of Watertown, SD, Kimberly (Robbie) Kontz of Chamberlain, SD, and Tami (Darin) Pecsall of Webster, SD; 36 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth; his parents; three brothers; and one sister.
