 A Funeral Mass for John F. Adams, age 85, of Watertown, SD, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Watertown. Fr. John Lantsberger will officiate. Music will be provided by Donna Williams as organist and Blaine Martian as song leader. John passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2009, at his residence.
Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Military graveside honors will be provided by Frank H. Adams Post #750 of Veterans of Foreign Wars of Watertown. Pallbearers will be Nick Adams, Kevin Adams, Eric Adams, Gale Eichorst, Garvin Eichorst, and Mel Breitag. Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. followed by a Scripture Wake service at 7:00 p.m. and will continue on Wednesday prior to services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Wednesday by 9:30 a.m. for a prayer service. Memorials may be directed to Prairie Lakes Hospice. John was born on October 29, 1923, in Waseca County, MN, to Timothy “Tim” and Mary (Matthew) Adams. He graduated from high school in Waldorf, MN, and attended college in Mason City, IA. John entered the United States Army on August 5, 1944, during WWII, and was honorably discharged on August 25, 1946. On December 31, 1946, John married Vernell Ewert at St. John’s Catholic Church in Waldorf, MN. The couple moved to Watertown, where John worked at Motor Supply and later worked as manager for Fleet Wholesale until his retirement. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Elks, American Legion, and V.F.W. John enjoyed square dancing, calling square dances, golfing, hunting, and woodcarving. John is survived by his wife, Vernell, of Watertown; four children: Clark (Bonny) Adams of Watertown, SD, Bruce Adams of Sioux Falls, SD, Charlotte Adams of Sioux City, IA, and Kelly (Therese) of Manhattan, KS; three grandchildren: Eric, Nick, and Kevin Adams; one great-grandson, Devon Adams; two brothers: Jim (Doris) Adams of Waldorf, MN, and Donald (Rosalie) Adams of Rapid City, SD; two sisters: Evelyn (Russ) DeVine of Watertown, SD, and Mary (Bob) Meurer of Mankato, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Jonathon; his parents; two brothers; and one sister. |
