Funeral services for Roy H. Mammenga, age 90, of Watertown, SD, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2009, at Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Watertown. Rev. Ken Mund will officiate. Music will be provided by Mike Fuchs and Lynn Osthus. Roy passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at the hospital in Watertown. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Stacy and Nate Leemkuil, Mike and Jenny Fuchs, and Dan Fuchs, and also Tom Aljoe, Ron Wagner, and Dwight Struckman. Visitation will be at Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Sunday prior to services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Sunday by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service. Roy was born on December 29, 1918, in Waterbury Township, Redwood County, MN, to Theodore and Olga (Engler) Mammenga. Roy grew up in Waterbury Township and at the age of 19, he started doing heavy construction work. On March 14, 1948, Roy married Darlyne VanHecke at Lamberton, MN. The couple moved to Hopkins, MN and later to Jamestown, ND, where Roy ran his uncle’s dairy farm. They returned to Minnesota and lived in the Redwood Falls area. Roy worked at a green house and then at a rendering plant until retiring. They moved to Watertown in 1990 and in January of 2008, they moved to Castlewood Assisted Living Center. He was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church. Roy enjoyed playing Solitaire and watching and feeding the birds. He also enjoyed helping on Tom Aljoe’s farm, riding with Ron Wagner to Minneapolis, and anything else to keep himself busy. He loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren. Roy is survived by his wife, Darlyne, of Castlewood; one daughter, Darlyce (David) Fuchs, of Watertown, SD; three grandchildren: Stacy (Nate) Leemkuil, Michael (Jenny) Fuchs, and Daniel Fuchs; two brothers: Darold (Joyce) Mammenga of Pengilly, MN, and Ralph Mammenga of Iowa; and one sister, Louise (Corky) Lundquist, of Rosemont, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Laverne; and one sister, Silvia.
