Lyle E. Singrey Funeral services for Lyle E. Singrey, age 88, of Hazel, SD, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2009, at Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Watertown, SD. Pastor Rae Speiser will officiate. Music will be provided by Brian Ries as organist and Nona Clifford as soloist. Lyle passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at a hospital in St. Paul, MN.

Burial will be in the Hazel Cemetery, rural Hazel. Military graveside honors will be provided by the Military Funeral Honors Team - South Dakota National Guard of Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be Lyle’s granddaughters and great-grandchildren and the Gideons. Active pallbearers will be: Luke Singrey, Lance Singrey, Van Singrey, Nathan Singrey, Naas Bibbey, Tyler Tesch, Rob Wegehaupt, Brian Oberlander, Russell Hallman, and Brian Ries.

Visitation will be at Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Friday at the church prior to the services. The family is requested to meet at the church on Friday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service.

Lyle was born on September 1, 1921, in Hamlin County, SD, to Harold Glen and Frances (Hanthorn) Singrey. He attended rural school and graduated from Hazel High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Germany during WWII. After an honorable discharge, Lyle returned to Hazel and started farming.

On February 16, 1947, Lyle married Lois Fordyce in Hazel. The couple lived and farmed near Hazel. Lyle was also the Post Master in Hazel for thirty years. He retired from the Post Office and continued to farm until his death.

Lyle was a member of Hazel Methodist Church where he served on various boards and was a Sunday School Teacher. He was also a member of the Hazel Cemetery Board, the Hazel School Board, Jenkins Living Center Board, Gideons, Hazel Fire Department, and was a 4-H leader. Lyle also participated in the Heifer Project International. He enjoyed farming, woodworking, fishing, and being with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by three sons: Lynn (Doreen) Singrey and Marvin (Christine) Singrey all of Hazel, SD, and Kevin Singrey of Aberdeen, SD; one brother, Vernon (Margaret) Singrey, of Hazel, SD; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and former daughter-in-law, Sharon Singrey.

Lyle was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, in 2007; his parents; and one brother, Don.
