 Funeral services for Lily Johnson, age 90, of Watertown, SD, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2009, in Grace Lutheran Church, Watertown. Rev. Stephen Lauricella will officiate. Music will be provided by Marcia Jelsma, organist, and Judy Everson, soloist. Lily passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2009, at a care center in Watertown. She was the widow of Woodrow Johnson.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Pallbearers will be: Chip Johnson, Rick Johnson, Kirk Johnson, Larry Johnson, Dale Johnson, Don Johnson, John Beutler, and Tom Kenyon. Visitation will be held in Grace Lutheran Church on Friday one hour prior to the service. Crawford Funeral Chapel of Watertown is handling the arrangements. Memorials may be directed to Prairie Lakes Hospice in Watertown. Lily was born on August 28, 1919 on a farm near Vienna, SD to Lewis and Carrie Peterson. She graduated from Vienna High School. Lily married Woodrow “Baldy” Johnson on August 30, 1937. They lived in Naples, SD and later moved to a farm outside of town. Lily worked at the Citizens State Bank of Vienna for many years. When they moved to Watertown, SD in the early 1970’s, Lily worked for a book and stationery company. Lily and Baldy retired and enjoyed traveling in their camper to the south and southwest. Lily became involved as a volunteer at the Senior Center in Watertown after Baldy’s death. She is survived by one son, Leighton (Sue) Johnson of Stillwater, MN; three grandchildren: Chip (Gretchen) Johnson of Brunswick, GA, Rick Johnson of Boulder, CO, and Kirk (Jessica) Johnson of Las Vegas, NV: four great-grandchildren: Savannah, Cheyenne, Briley, and Hudson and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Nyla Beutler and Lois Fuller for their kindness and support. Lily was preceded in death by her husband, Baldy Johnson; her parents; and one sister, Martha Buelow. |
