Funeral services for Leonard L. Davis, age 74, of Watertown, SD, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2009, at Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Pastor Scott Davis will officiate. Music will be provided by Kathy Iverson as organist with congregational singing. Leonard passed away on Monday, September 21, 2009, at the V.A. Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Military graveside honors will be provided by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion and the Military Funeral Honors Team of the S.D. National Guard, both of Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be: Todd Gottsleben, Mike Davis, Ike Davis, Mark Davis, Roger Adams, and Dan Miller. Active pallbearers will be: Jeff McGuire, Mike McGuire, Caleb McGuire, Jessy DeWall, Vincent Lam, and Angela Lam. Visitation will be at Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Friday prior to services at the chapel. The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Friday by 9:30 a.m. to attend the services. Leonard was born on April 25, 1935, in Watertown, SD, to Leon and Arlene (McMichael) Davis. He left home at the age of 16 and moved to California where he worked as a machinist. Leonard served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1957. On October 17, 1959, Leonard married Myrna Hascall and they later divorced. To this union two children were born, Debra and Michael. Leonard worked for American Canning Company and another San Francisco company. Leonard returned to Watertown in 1971 where he worked for Gray Construction. He and his father started L & L Construction in 1973. On December 15, 1979, Leonard married Carol DeWall in Milbank, SD. He enjoyed ‘trick’ water skiing, hunting, bowling, and putting jigsaw puzzles together. Leonard is survived by his wife, Carol, of Watertown; three children: Debra Perkins of Manteca, CA, Michael Davis and Machelle (Dave) McGuire all of Watertown, SD; three step-children: Patricia (Curtis) Thomson of Madison, MN, Nancy Calderon of Watertown, SD, and Timothy (Carla) Chenoweth of Wellington, KS; 21 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two sisters: Lauretta (Jim) Haney of Watertown, SD, and Sandra Murphy of Rochester, NH. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
