 Memorial services for George W. Pies, age 81, of Watertown, SD, formerly Waubay, SD, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October, 17, 2009, at Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Rev. Stephen Lauricella will officiate. George passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2009, at a care center in Watertown.
Burial will be at a later date at Andover Cemetery in Andover, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff and residents from Jenkins Living Center. There will be no visitation. The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Saturday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service. George was born on December 30, 1927, in Webster, SD, to Walter and Olena (Rustadt) Pies. He grew up and lived on the family farm. On June 21, 1973, George married Goldie (Miller) Kraai at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay. They lived on the farm until moving to Watertown in 1977. George worked at Webster Foundry and at Chickasee in Watertown. Goldie passed away in 1987. George lived at Jenkins Living Center for the last 15 years. He enjoyed fishing and wine making. George is survived by six children: Charlie (Joleen) Kraai of Watertown, SD, John (Amy) Kraai of Centerville, SD, Patsy (Leon) Pies of Hubbard, NE, Paul (Lori) Kraai of Watertown, SD, Ralph (Anna) Kraai of Belevue, IA, and Henry (Nori) Kraai of Slayton, MN; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers, and one sister. |
