A Memorial service for Lillian M. (Mrs. DeLaine) Owen, age 86, of Watertown, SD, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 13, 2009, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Watertown. Rev. Steven Bailey will officiate. Music will be provided by Bruce Reinhardt as organist and Don Seim as soloist. Lillian passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at the hospital in Watertown.
There will be a private burial in the South Elrod Cemetery, Clark, SD, at a later date.
There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Crawford Funeral Chapel.
Lillian was born on January 14, 1923, in Clark County, SD, to William E. and Hannah (Moren) Stewart. She attended rural schools in Clark County including Elrod School. Lillian graduated from Henry High School, Henry, SD. Following graduation she worked at North American Creamery and Montgomery Wards.
On December 23, 1943, Lillian married DeLaine M. Owen in Hayti, SD. Following marriage she continued to work at North American Creamery and Montgomery Wards. When her husband returned from the service they became owners of Owen and Son Painting, where she was the bookkeeper. Later she went into the real estate business with her husband and was bookkeeper there as well. They ran the family business together for over 50 years. Lillian was also a homemaker and raised her family.
She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and Henriette’s Card Club. Lillian enjoyed bowling, traveling, golfing, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She was loved and will be missed by all of her family and friends.
Lillian is survived by her husband, DeLaine, of Watertown, SD; two sons: Jim (Kay) Owen of Watertown, SD, and Doug (Grace) Owen of Wickenburg, AZ; one daughter, Sandra (Gary) Knutson, of Volga, SD; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Marge) Stewart, of Milbank, SD; and one sister, Lois (Duane) Koppmann, of Watertown, SD.
She was preceded in death by one son, Mark; her parents; and three brothers: Elton, Hubert, and Glenn.

| The Elkins and the Owens have been friends forever. I'm so sorry about Lillian. She will be missed by many. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the whole family. I wish we could be there.
