Funeral services for Ann G. Compton, age 95, of Watertown, SD, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 18, 2010, at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Rev. Joel Higgins will officiate. Music will be provided by A.J. Sherrill as organist and Judy Everson as soloist. Ann passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2010, at a care center in Lake Norden, SD. She was the widow of Ernest L. Compton.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be: Todd Compton, Craig Compton, and Tony Winters. Active pallbearers will be: Rick Winters, Nathan Winters, Gavin Winters, Dan Winters, Zack Winters, and Dustin Hallauer.
Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Monday morning prior to services. The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Monday by 10:30 a.m. for a prayer service.
Ann was born on September 15, 1914, at Locus Grove, IA, to Thomas H. and Goldie A. (Rouse) Greever.
On February 20, 1933, Ann married Ernest L. Compton at Rockport, MO. The couple moved to a farm near Humeston, IA, and lived there for five years before moving to Mason City, IA. They returned to their farm near Humeston and eventually rented the farm out and returned to Mason City until moving to Watertown.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Ann was a homemaker and helped with her church circle. She also enjoyed traveling with Ernest after his retirement.
Ann is survived by four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Ron Winters, of Watertown, SD; and one daughter-in-law, Sue Compton, of Edmunds, OK.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, on November 6, 2000; one daughter, Pat Winters; one son, Merlin Compton; and nine brothers and sisters.
