Elwood N. Caulfield

  



     Funeral services for Elwood Norman Caulfield, age 84, of Watertown, SD, will be at  2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2010, at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown.  Rev. Stephen Lauricella will officiate.  Music will be provided by Marcia Jelsma as organist and Don Seim as soloist.  Elwood passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at a care center in Watertown.



     Burial will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.  Military graveside honors will be provided by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion and the Frank H. Adams Post #750 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Watertown, and the Military Funeral Honors Team of the SD Army National Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Elwood’s grandchildren: Stephanie (Ben) Krohn and Angela (Mike) Dunn; and Willis Urdall, Dean Rinerson, and Elwood Multhauf.  Active pallbearers will be: Kim Warkenthien, Gary Beigh, Jerry Caulfield, Jim Caulfield, Arlin Waldow, and Kevin Stanton.



     Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and in the church Friday prior to services.  The family is requested to meet at the church on Friday by 2:00 p.m. for a prayer service.



     Elwood was born on June 12, 1925, at Hazel, SD, to Wallace C. and Melva (Framstad) Caulfield.  He attended school in Vienna, SD.  Elwood enlisted in the US Army and served in the South Pacific during WW II.  Following an honorable discharge, he went to Refrigeration School in Minneapolis, MN.



     On January 7, 1956, Elwood married Delberta “Del” Maurice at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Watertown, SD.  The couple lived in Rapid City, Willow Lake, and Watertown.  Elwood was a water softener and Hoover vacuum cleaner salesman and later sold insurance for over 35 years.



     He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the American Legion, and the V.F.W.  Elwood loved to hunt and fish and was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan.



     Elwood is survived by his wife, Del, of Watertown, SD; two children: Shirley (Carleton) Hurley of Worthington, MN, and Douglas (LeAnn) Caulfield of Watertown, SD; two grandchildren: Stephanie (Ben) Krohn and Angela (Mike) Dunn; two great-grandchildren: Aubrie Saysirisanh and Will Krohn; and one sister, Doris Mae Caulfield, of West Virginia.



     He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
