Gerald J. Squashingroff

     Funeral services for Gerald J. Squashingroff, age 73, of Watertown, SD, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown.  Pastor Ken Mund will officiate.  Music will be provided by Peggy Biswell.  Gerald passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at a hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.



     Burial will be at a later date at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Cemetery in Taunton, MN.



     Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and prior to services on Saturday.  The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Saturday by 9:30 a.m. for a prayer service.



     Gerald was born on June 3, 1937, at Ivanhoe, MN, to Walter Mathew and Isabelle (Boss) Squashingroff.  He grew up in the Ivanhoe area, attended grade school in Porter, MN, and graduated from high school in Canby, MN.  Gerald enlisted in the US Navy on July 10, 1956, and was honorably discharged on July 6, 1960, while stationed in Long Beach, CA.



     On September 6, 1959, Gerald married Sharon Sue Hale in Las Vegas, NV.  During his lifetime, Gerald worked as a butcher, in road construction, at a lumber yard, and as a plumber.  Later, he worked in the grain elevator business for over 30 years in the South Dakota and North Dakota area until retiring in 1998.



     During his retirement, he spent time hunting and fishing, riding his motorcycle, barbequing, and working in his yard.  Gerald truly enjoyed life.



     Gerald is survived by his wife, Sharon, of Watertown; his four children: James (Cathy) Squashingroff of Lake Norden, SD, Debra (Neal) Keller of Wallace, SD,  Lisa (Warren) Westover of Sioux Falls, SD, and Jerry (Lynn) Squashingroff of Estelline, SD; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and last but not least, the one he called ‘Honey Buns’, his Dachshund, Abigale.



     He was preceded in death by his parents.
