Winnifred L. Gunderson



     Funeral services for Winnifred Leone Ruth Gunderson, age 92, of Watertown, SD, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2010, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Watertown.  Rev. Paul Janke will officiate.  Music will be provided by Bev Ewy as organist with congregational singing.  Winnifred passed away on Monday, August 2, 2010, at the hospital in Watertown.  She was the widow of George Gunderson.



     Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown.  Pallbearers will be: Gregg Gunderson, Jeffery Gunderson, Jason Gunderson, Michael Gunderson, Cody Beck, and Luke Bethea.



     Visitation will be prior to services at the church on Saturday.  The family is requested to be at the church on Saturday by 10:00 a.m. to attend the services.



      Winnifred was born on September 27, 1917, in Florence, SD to Frank David and Clara E. (Beyer) Sievert.  She grew up on a farm near Florence and attended school there, graduating from Florence High School.



     On November 30, 1939, Winnifred married George Alton Gunderson in Florence, SD.  The couple farmed in Germantown Township, SD until retiring in 1978.  They then moved to Watertown.



     Winnifred was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  She liked playing games, cards, doing puzzles, working on the family tree and photo albums.  She enjoyed her sewing crafts and making dolls and bears for her grandchildren.  Winnifred also loved visiting with friends, neighbors, family, and especially her sisters.



     Winnifred is survived by three sons: Maurice (Phyllis) Gunderson, of Watertown, SD, Lynn (Kay) Gunderson, of Milltown, WI, and Larry (Ginny) Gunderson, of Woodbury, MN; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Lois Castle, of Brainerd, MN and Elaine (Ing) Werp, of Floodwood, MN.



     She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; two brothers; and five sisters.

Winnie was the sweetest woman and such a good friend to my mother. I loved hearing her stories of the years she lived on the farm and always looked forward to visiting her when I made a trip home to Watertown. I'll really miss her, but I'm so happy that she's now home with the Lord.
