Arthur J. Art Meyer, Jr.

     Funeral services for Arthur John "Art" Meyer, Jr., age 76, of South Shore, SD, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2010, in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, South Shore.  Rev. Ken Nelson will officiate.  Music will be provided by Hilda Grewing as organist and Art’s grandchildren: Sarah, Sam, and Claire.   Art passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at his residence.



     Burial will be in St. Luke’s Cemetery, Germantown Township, Codington County, SD.  Honorary pallbearers will be Art’s many friends and relatives.  Active pallbearers will be Art’s grandsons:  Austin Meyer, Jon Meyer, A. J. Meyer, Andrew Meyer, Anthony Meyer, and Aaron Wiechmann.  Ushers will be: Lonnie Lowe, Mike Henrichs, and Kevin Snoozy.



     Visitation will be at Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown, SD, on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and in the church on Saturday prior to the services.  The family is requested to meet at the church on Saturday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service.



     Art was born on January 4, 1934, at Tyler, MN, to Arthur, Sr. and Ella (Sandkamp) Meyer.  The family moved to a farm near Watertown when Art was two years old.  They lived and farmed in the Watertown area for several years before moving north of South Shore.  Art attended Foley School from 1940 to 1948.  He attended and graduated from Bethany Lutheran High School in Mankato, MN. 



     On February 14, 1953, Art married Eunice Huseby at Rock Dell Lutheran Church in Belview, MN.  The couple settled north of South Shore and ranched for 25 years.  After retiring from ranching, Art and his family moved into South Shore and Art became an insurance representative for Aid Association for Lutherans.  He was an agent for 15 years, retiring in 1995. 



     Art enjoyed traveling, gardening, playing pinochle, reading his Bible, and watching the Minnesota Twins. 



     He is survived by his wife, Eunice, of South Shore; four sons:  Brian (Kathy) Meyer of South Shore, SD, Arthur III “Bud” (Carrie) Meyer of Durango, CO, William (Lynn) Meyer of Denver, CO, and Christopher Meyer of Watertown, SD; one daughter, Beth (Tim) Wiechmann, of Savage, MN; 19 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Thompson, of Canton, SD; three brothers:  Marv (Morky) Meyer of Brookings, SD, Delwin (Eloise) Meyer of Huntsville, AL, and Lon (Miriam) Meyer of Phoenix, AZ; and  one sister-in-law, Ruth Elshere, of Watertown, SD.



     Art was preceded in death by one son, Bradley; his parents; three sisters; and three brothers.

Eunice and family,
You have been in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this time. Art was a really nice man and he will surely be missed by his family and friends. Charish the memories and rely on the love of our Father to help you throught.
