A memorial visitation for Janet K. Binde, age 67, of Watertown, SD, will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 28, 2010, at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown. A private committal service will take place on Friday at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.  Rev. Stephen Lauricella will officiate.  Janet lost her two year battle with lung cancer on Monday, October 25, 2010, at her residence.  She was the widow of Omar Binde.

     Janet Kay Binde was born on May 8, 1943, at the Bartron Clinic in Watertown, SD, to Carl and Roberta (Leaver) Udseth.  She was baptized at the Lutheran Church in Summit, SD, on October 17, 1943.  Janet spent most of her childhood in Summit and Northern Minnesota.  She was confirmed at the Summit Lutheran Parish on June 15, 1958.  She attended several grade schools between Minnesota and South Dakota.  Janet graduated from Summit High School on May 26, 1961.

     On August 10, 1963, Janet married Omar Alfred Binde in Summit, SD.  To this union, two sons were born, Troy Orin Binde on April 27, 1967 and Trent Wayne Binde on October 22, 1969.  Janet was employed for many years as a waitress at various restaurants which included The Other Place and Stone’s Grainery.  She also worked as a sales clerk for Red Owl, Woolworth’s and 81 Liquor.  

     Janet enjoyed spending time at the lake with her sons during the summer in her younger years.  As she grew older, she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, playing cards and board games, and spending time with her family and friends.  Janet’s grandsons became the sunshine in her days and stole her heart.  She spent a great deal of the last part of her life spoiling them.  Janet always loved animals and rescued many who were ill or in need of a home.  She especially loved her two dogs, Precious and Peaches, who helped her through the difficult times of her life.  Precious was very protective of Janet and her home, so she would spend time in lock-up when anyone came to visit.  She enjoyed walking her dogs until her health didn’t allow her to. Janet was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She spoke highly of the caring staff at the Prairie Lakes Cancer Center. Her family would like to thank and is grateful for the support and care from Prairie Lakes Hospice.

     Grateful for having shared her life are her two sons: Troy (Cynthia) Binde and Trent (Becky) Binde and her two grandsons, Zachary and Zandar Binde all of Watertown, SD; and one sister, Joan Remboldt, of Guthrie Center, IA.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, Omar, in 2007; and her parents.
