Harry M. Hanson

     Funeral services for Harry Marvin Hanson, age 70, of Watertown, SD, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown.  Rev. Stephen Lauricella will officiate.  Music will be provided by Marcia Jelsma as organist with Judy Everson as soloist.  Harry passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at the hospital in Watertown.



     Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown, SD.  Honorary pallbearers will be Harry’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Active pallbearers will be David Hanson, Mike Benson, Brian Benson, Keith Hanson, Duane Hanson, and Derrick Barse.



     Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Wednesday.  The family is requested to meet at the church on Wednesday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service.



     Harry was born on June 11, 1940, on a farm near Strandburg, SD, to Henry and Mary (Johnson) Hanson. He grew up in the Altamont-Strandburg area and attended a one-room country school house.  Harry worked on neighboring farms for many years.



     On November 12, 1965, Harry married Elaine Benck at Bethel Lutheran Church in Astoria, SD.  The couple lived in Hayti and Milbank, SD.  In 1971, they moved to Watertown where Harry worked at Minnesota Rubber for 31 years and retired in 2002.



     He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.  Harry enjoyed working on cars, fishing, and camping.  He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.  Harry really appreciated his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending time with them.



     Harry is survived by his wife, Elaine, of Watertown; three children: Susan Paulson and her friend, Rich Rikimoto, Larry Hanson and his friend, Tammy Smith, and Lisa Bock all of Watertown, SD; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald Hanson, of Watertown, SD; three sisters: Joyce (LeRoy) Benson and Linda Barse all of Watertown, SD, and Carol Schotte of Hartford, SD; his mother-in-law, Lorraine Benck, of Watertown, SD; three brothers-in-law: Wayne (Sue) Benck of Clear Lake, SD, Gene Benck of Fargo, ND, and Al (Gwen) Benck of Henry, SD; and several nieces and nephews.



     He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert; and two sisters- in-law, Margie Hanson and Darlene Hanson.
