Harold F. Jensen

     A Funeral Mass for Harold F. Jensen, age 91, of Watertown, SD, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 20, 2011, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Watertown.  The celebrant will be Fr. John Lantsberger.  Music will be provided by Donna Williams as organist with LeeAnn Maag as song leader. Harold passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at his home.

     Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Watertown.  Military graveside honors will be presented by Frank H. Adams Post #750 of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, both of Watertown, and the Military Funeral Honors Team of the SD Army National Guard.  Honorary pallbearers will be Harold’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons: Mike Baker, Shane Jensen, Dave Jensen, Daniel Kluckman, Todd Jensen, Chad Wiesner, Ryan Jensen, Anthony Block, Corey Schwinger, and Joey Jensen.

     Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. with a Scripture Wake service at 4:30 p.m.  Visitation will continue on Monday prior to services at the church.  The family is requested to meet at the church on Monday by 9:30 a.m. for a prayer service.

     Harold was born on August 30, 1919, at Bryant, SD, to Chris and Amanda (Mehlhausen) Jensen.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941.  During his time of service, Harold was captured in North Africa and held ‘Prisoner of War’ in Italy for 18 months before he made his way back to the American lines.  Harold was a veteran of WWII and received an honorable discharge in 1945.

     On October 8, 1946, Harold married Virginia Weber at Ipswich, SD.  He started farming and was later employed by Watertown Monument Works and Codington-Clark Equipment.  He also enjoyed working the land as a tractor operator for Milton Lakness for 25 years.

     He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church.  He was also a member of AXPOW, the VFW, the American Legion, and DAV.  Harold loved spending time with his family.

     Harold is survived by his wife of 65 years, Virginia, of Watertown; six sons: Steve (Dianne) Jensen of Savage, MN, Bob (Monie) Jensen of Sioux Falls, SD, Richard (Cheri) Jensen of Kiester, MN, Jerry Jensen and his fiancé, Sue, of Hibbing, MN, DeWayne (Karen) Jensen of Watertown, SD, and Brian (Lori) Jensen of Sioux Falls, SD; five daughters: Linda (Robert) Baker of Ohio, Diane (Ralph) Kluckman and MaryAnn (Warren) Wiesner all of Clear Lake, SD, Teresa (Jerry) Goehring of Wentworth, SD, and Debbie (Van) Schwinger of Florence, SD; 28 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

     He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Jill Block and Jeremiah “JJ” Jensen, his parents, and all of his brothers and sisters.
