Jun 30 1921 - Aug 05 2011
Eula M. Hinderaker

Eula Hinderaker was born on June 30, 1921 in Hazel Run, Minnesota.  She died peacefully on August 5, 2011.

Eula was raised by her mother, Cora Jertson, in Sioux Falls after the death of her father, Leonard, on November 20, 1933.  She graduated from Washington High School and Augustana College.  She married Irving Hinderaker after his discharge from the Army at the end of World War II.  After Irv graduated from law school, they moved to Watertown where he practiced law for more than fifty years, and they raised their four sons, Paul, John, James and Eric.

Eula managed the family household.  The house was always spotless and the sheets were always ironed.  She was justly famous for her bread and her duck and goose dinners.

Besides managing the family, Eula was very active in her community.  She was a Cub Scout den mother and a charter member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, for which she wrote (with her friend, Ruth Johnson) early Sunday/Bible School curricula.  She served on the boards of Human Service Agency and Norwest Bank South Dakota, N.A.  She was a sixty-year member and a past state president of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.  Among her last words were, “don’t forget my golf and bridge friends.”

Eula is survived by Irving, her husband of sixty-five years; her children, Paul (Carol) of Watertown; John (Loree) of Apple Valley, MN; James (Susan) of Weddington, NC; and Eric (Carrie) of Salt Lake City, UT; nine grandchildren, David (Ashley) of Sioux Falls, SD; Eric of Eagan, MN; Laura, Alison and Kathryn of Apple Valley, MN; Andrew of Brooklyn, NY; Mark of Pittsburgh, PA; Michael and Samuel of Salt Lake City, UT; and her sister, Carol Riddlesperger of Denton, TX; two brothers-in-law, Harris (Joan) of Willmar, MN; Philip of St. Paul, MN; sister-in-law, Carolyn (Charles) of Annapolis, MD; eight nieces and eight nephews.

There will be a visitation at Crawford Funeral Chapel from 4:00 to 7:00 on Thursday, August 11.  The funeral will be at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer at 1:30 on Friday, August 12.  Eula’s golf and bridge friends (and spouses) are invited to join her P.E.O. Sisters, who will be seated together.

The family requests that memorials be directed to Watertown Community Foundation.

Dear FriendsrnEula set the gold standard for graciousness and tolerance. Who else would have welcomed the Runarounds pounding on guitars and drums for hours on end trying to get some old '50s standard or surfing song to sound like music? I'll always remember her knowing smile and twinkling eye. She was powerfully positive influence on all of us, whether we were in Cub Scout uniforms or pretending to be future rock stars. You are all lucky to know you'll find comfort in a

Irv and Family,

It takes a very wonderful, special Mom to raise such fine sons. (Though I don't know John, I'll bet he is as distinguished as Eric, James, and Paul.)

May God’s Peace be with you as you celebrate Eula’s life.

Kiki (Kristi Thompson - Hegg) and I want to extend our deepest condolences. Eula led a wonderful life and she was a great mother and spouse.

Kiki is not strong enough (MS) for us to attend the funeral so please accept this abreviated version of our deepest sympathy.

Dear Irv, John, Paul, James and Eric,

The Hinderaker household was a second home to me for so many years. Eula's love and hospitality was seemingly effortless. Despite all the racket we were making in the basement of the old house on N. Park and the endless hordes of army men we were arraying in that back room. The weekends spent at the old cabin on Kampeska were the high points of my summers. So many wonderful memories, and always Eula's wonderful smile and the twinkle in her eye as she

Dear Irv and Family,

You are in our thoughts and prayers during this time. May God comfort you.

Eula was a marvelous lady and I treasure the conversations and time we had together at Augustana College events. She was a champion of Augie and will be greatly missed.

Sincerely,

Nate

Irv and all--So sad to learn of Eula's passing, but what a great life she had! Take care of one another these days and revel in all she did and all she was. Will there be some mention of your preference for memorials? --Mark Hanson, Fort Collins, CO
