Ashlyn B. Buelow May 28 1998 - Aug 16 2011 |

 Funeral services for Ashlyn Beth Buelow, age 13, of Castlewood, SD, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2011, at the Castlewood High School gymnasium in Castlewood. Rev. Bill Hamill will officiate. Music will be provided by Karen Lund as organist with Pastor Steve and Katherine Ferguson and Pastor Jim and Peggy Biswell as vocalists. Visitation will be on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Castlewood. Burial will be at the Castlewood Cemetery in Castlewood. Honorary pallbearers will be: the Castlewood Class of 2016, the girls’ basketball team, and Ashlyn’s rodeo friends. Active pallbearers will be: Kenzi Olsen, Grant Olsen, Jeff Neuendorf, Brad Gisselbeck, Tony Vandersnick, Jay Schmidt, and Dan Haug. Ashlyn Beth Buelow went to be with her Savior, Jesus, on Tuesday, August 16th, 2011, as a result of an accident. Ashlyn was born on May 28, 1998, at Watertown, SD, to Christopher and Shannon (DeWitt) Buelow. She was a beautiful young woman whose gentle strength, sense of humor, and giving spirit were a joy to all who knew her. Ashlyn would have been an 8th grader at Castlewood this fall. She was active in school activities including girls’ basketball, volleyball, track, and band. Throughout her school years, Ashlyn earned Honor Roll of Excellency status, won the Presidential Academic Award, and was named Student of the Quarter. She recently won first place in the science fair. Ashlyn took great pride in being a member of the Castlewood Warrior basketball team. She was an inspiration to the teammates she played ball with and to the varsity players she served as student manager. Winning the 2010 State B Basketball Championship was one of the highlights of Ashlyn’s life. 4-H horse project and being a part of the Hamlin County 4-H Rodeo Club and Rough Riders Club were a big part of Ashlyn’s life. This July, Ashlyn won Grand Champion in pole bending at the State 4-H Horse Show and qualified for the upcoming State Finals 4-H Rodeo. Ashlyn also won multiple Grand Champion buckles with her partner, Twister. Ashlyn was a member of Hamlin County 4-H Shooting Sports. Ashlyn holds the record at the state level for rapid fire air pistol and won first place at the SD State 4-H Competition in bulls-eye with air pistol. Ashlyn was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Castlewood, attended confirmation, and was active in the Castlewood Youth Group. Her love for Jesus was evidenced in her humble, loving, and joyful heart. Ashlyn loved watching the Miami Heat play and Jeff Gordon race. The Colts were her favorite NFL team. Ashlyn really enjoyed sharing this love of sports with her family and friends. Ashlyn was a hard worker but liked to have fun. She loved her sister, Camryn, and they spent every day together doing chores, riding horse, and just hanging out. Ashlyn wore blue and gold with pride- loved the Warriors and SDSU Jacks! She dreamed of playing basketball at SDSU and worked hard on her goals. Whether shooting around, playing one-on-one in the barn, or going to open gym, Ashlyn loved to play basketball. She enjoyed fishing with her dad, shooting birds around the ranch, and being her mom and dad’s right hand girl. Ashlyn had a knack for making people smile and a thoughtful way of remembering everyone with a hug or one of her heartmade presents. To those who knew and loved her, we would say her life was too short; but, in reality, in her thirteen years, she lived her life big and with meaning. Ashlyn made a difference. Ashlyn Beth Buelow is a gift. Those grateful for sharing her life are her parents, Christopher and Shannon (DeWitt) Buelow; her sister, Camryn; maternal grandparents, Willis and Cheryl DeWitt; paternal grandparents, Alan and Jeannie Buelow and Vern and Lori Mosser; aunt, Shawn Olsen, and cousins, McKenzie and Grant Olsen; aunt, Lesly Block; great uncle, Greg and Karolyn Skoglund; and all of her many close friends. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Linda Schultz; maternal great-grandparents, Grant and Betty Skoglund, and Willis, Sr. and Helen DeWitt; and paternal great-grandparents, Arnold and Olga Buelow and Les and Esther Schultz. |

| Chris and Shannon- I loved Ashlyn like a sister, she always had a smile on her face and it would make me smile too. I loved her so much and i can't explain how much i miss her. I wish i couldhave known her as much as everyone else but for the time i knew her i knew she was the most beautiful and the nicest girl i would ever meet. | Shannon-you may not remember me, but I called on you and Dr. Feeney at the old clinic. I remember you telling stories of your little girls and I appreciated them so much as I did not have children at the time.
