Elwood S. Ewy

 



Elwood S. Ewy, age 85, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Watertown.  Rev. Keith Petersen will officiate.  Music will be provided by Ellen Heisner as organist with Elwood’s grandchildren as vocalists. 



 



Burial will be at Faith Lutheran Cemetery in Avoca, MN, at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.  Military graveside honors will be presented by the American Legion. Pallbearers will be: Marwood Neilson, Stephen Noding, Dennis Noding, Fred Biswell, James Biswell and Scott Bichler.



 



Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Saturday. 



 



Elwood was born on September 26, 1926, in Des Moines River Township, Murray County, MN, to Jacob and Marie (Von Holdt) Ewy.  He grew up on the family farm near Avoca.  Elwood served in the U.S. Army during WWII and received several medals including: the Asiatic Pacific, the Philippine Liberation, the Army Occupation (Japan) and the Good Conduct medals.



 



Sixty one years ago, on January 8, 1951, Elwood married Beverly Schneider at Avoca, MN.  The couple moved to Watertown in 1955 where they raised their three children.  Elwood was employed by KWAT Radio Station as an announcer and engineer for nearly 20 years.  He also ran an electronic repair shop and drove school bus.



 



He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  Elwood enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending horse shows and spending time with his grandchildren.



 



Elwood is survived by his wife, Bev, and one son, Keith (Patty) Ewy, all of Watertown; two daughters: Sheila (Scott) Bichler of Grand Forks, ND, and Kim (Fred) Biswell of Fayette, MO; six grandchildren: Katie (fiancée, Jason Pojorlie) Ewy; and Ellie, James, Bryan, Anna and Emily Biswell; one sister, Vera Langfeldt, of Fulda, MN; and many nieces and nephews.



 



He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Clarence and Vernon; and two sisters: Esther Neilson and Edna Ewy.



 



Memorials may be directed to Great Plains Lutheran High School or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
