Merlyn A. Jensen Mar 24 1937 - Jan 30 2012 |

Merlyn Alden Jensen, 74, of Volga, SD passed away on Monday, January 30, 2012 at an Arlington, SD care center. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2012 at Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown, SD. Pastor Greg Tebeest will officiate. Music will be provided by Peggy Biswell. Burial will be in East Bethania Cemetery, Erwin, SD at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #241 and Post #63 and the Military Funeral Honors Team of the SD Army National Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Merlyn’s grandchildren: Cody Jensen, Bailie Jensen, Zachary Whitaker, and Riley Whitaker. Active pallbearers will be: Scott Jensen, Tim Jensen, Mark Jensen, Tony Arneson, Chad Haufschild, and Marty Haufschild. Visitation will be at Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. and will continue at the chapel on Friday prior to the services. Following his honorable discharge, Merlyn returned home and married Margaret Lee on October 28, 1967 at the First Lutheran Church in Lake Norden, SD. He then started working for Lake Norden Creamery which was later known as Land O Lakes. He worked there until it closed. The couple then moved to Volga and Merlyn worked for Land O Lakes cheese plant until retiring. After retiring, Merlyn spent ten years working part-time for Brookings County Weed Department. Merlyn enjoyed having coffee with his friends, restoring old tractors, and especially liked his Oliver. He also enjoyed trapping, ice fishing and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Volga; his children: Tracy Jensen of Aurora, SD, Randy (Shelly) Jensen of Henricks, MN, and Terry (Jeff) Whitaker of Elk River, MN; four grandchildren; one brother, Virgil (Joyce) Jensen of Erwin, SD; and one sister, Geraldine Lommel of St. Cloud, MN. Merlyn was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and one brother.
