Evelyn M. Monnens

Evelyn M. Monnens, 76, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at her residence.  She was the widow of Earl Monnens.  Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown.  Pastor Jim Biswell will officiate.  Music will be provided by Peggy Biswell.  Honorary pallbearers will be Evelyn’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.





 



Evelyn was born on August 24, 1935, to Oscar and Martha (Walters) Will in Wayzata, MN.  She graduated from high school in Mound, MN.  She then worked for Prudential Insurance in St. Paul, MN


 



On December 27, 1956, Evelyn married Earl Monnens in Minneapolis, MN.  In 1959, the couple moved to Thief River Falls, MN.  Later, the couple lived in Buffalo, MN, and later Brookings, SD.  In 1964, they moved to Watertown, SD, and in 1976, to Onida, SD.  In 1985, they moved back to the family farm where Evelyn worked as a nurse’s aide at Jenkins Living Center.  She retired in 1998 and the couple continued to live on the farm.  Earl passed away on January 16, 2007. 



 



Evelyn enjoyed embroidery, quilting, lawn work and gardening.



 



She is survived by her children:  Anthony (Kathy) Monnens of Hazel, SD, Craig (Loretta) Monnens, of Watertown, SD; and Shelly Monnens and her special friend, Chad Kranz, of Sioux Falls, SD; eight grandchildren: Jesse, Misty, Abby, Shayna, Kaycee, Wade, Amanda, and Samantha; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sally Pratt, of Watertown, WI.



 



Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Hal; her parents; two brothers; and one sister.

I was sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. My mother passed away on Feb 17, so I know your pain. I hope the support of family and friends will get you all through this time. God Bless

Our sympathies to the families. I so enjoyed the time that I had spent with Evy from visting her on the farm and in the apt. Bringing her hot food from HyVee deli,doing odds and ends for cleaning and taking her in to hair appts.Her words of wisdom and telling me her life stories. She will be greatly missed.
