Vivian M. Brown, 104, of Watertown, SD passed away on Friday, May 18, 2012 at a local care center. She was the widow of Roy Brown. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 21, 2012 at the Florence United Methodist Church in Florence, SD. Pastor Rae Speiser will officiate. Music will be provided by Florence Gebur, organist and Deverne and Janet Rickard, vocalists.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD at 1:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Vivian’s great-grandchildren: Trevor Anderson, Ryan Anderson, Bradley Rossow, Andy Rossow, Jami Grangaard, and Alyssa Anderson.
Visitation will be prior to the services at the church on Monday.
Vivian was born at home on May 6, 1908 to Chauncey and Rosa Gertrude (Tschakert) White in Florence, SD. In 1926, she graduated with the first graduating class of Florence High School. She then attended Northern State Teacher’s College for one year and then taught at a country school for two years.
On November 3, 1936, Vivian married Roy Brown at the Methodist Parsonage in Watertown, SD. The couple lived in Florence where Vivian was a homemaker. In 1993, Vivian moved to Watertown.
She was a longtime member of Florence United Methodist Church and United Methodist Church Women where she served in many offices. She also was a Sunday School teacher. Vivian was a member of Florence Golden Years Club and Whirl-Aways Square Dance Club. She enjoyed reading, square dancing, music, gardening, and car races. She especially enjoyed being outside working in her flower garden. She also loved animals – cats, dogs, horses, and birds.
Vivian is survived by her daughter, Gayla Anderson and special friend, Veirn Pederson of Watertown, SD; 4 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister, one brother, and one son-in-law, Merle Anderson
