Andy William Lenander, age 94, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2015, at a care center in Watertown.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2015, at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Pastor Steve Biswell and Pastor Gordon Solheim will officiate.
Music will be provided by A. J. Sherrill as organist with Pastor Steve Biswell as soloist. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. prior to services at the chapel.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, of Watertown, and the Ellsworth Air Force Base Honor Guard, of Piedmont, SD.
Active pallbearers will be Paul Solheim, Warren Graham, Roger Tolrud, Harlan Lenning, Duane Gorder, and Bryce Nicola.
Andy was born on April 6, 1921, on the family farm near Brandt, SD, to John and Anna (Anderson) Lenander. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
He attended Roosevelt rural school in Toronto, SD, and worked for various farmers in the Deuel County area.
At the age of 20, Andy moved to San Diego, CA, where he worked at the Consolidated Aircraft Defense plant.
On June 1, 1942, Andy married Olga Gorder of Estelline, SD.
The couple was married in San Diego and lived there until Andy was drafted into the U. S. Armed Services.
After basic training in Florida, he was assigned to permanent duty at Lincoln Air Force Base, Lincoln, NE.
Andy was stationed in Lincoln for two years before he transferred to Calcutta, India.
He served at the Army Air Force Supply Depot in Calcutta for two years.
Following an honorable discharge, he and Olga returned to Estelline to farm and later purchased a farm near Astoria, SD.
The couple lived there for 40 years before retiring and moving to Watertown.
He was a member of Engen-Bokken American Legion Post #103 of Astoria.
He was an active member of Blom Prairie Lutheran Church in Toronto and served in various offices there until moving to Watertown.
Andy and Olga enjoyed vacations in Texas and Arizona during the winter months.
They also enjoyed many trips to Mississippi, Montana, Washington, California and Colorado to visit their children and grandchildren.
Andy is survived by his wife, Olga, of Watertown; two sons: Larry (Alma) Lenander of Pasadena, CA, and Gary Lenander of Pueblo, CO; one daughter, Celia (Richard) Ness, of Tacoma, WA; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Curtis (Betty) Lenander, of Yuma, AZ; one sister, Stella Graham, of Custer, SD; two step-brothers: Kenneth (Eileen) Sletten of Tracy, MT, and Leslie Sletten of Custer, SD; and three sisters-in-law: Helen Gorder of Watertown, and Joyes and Sue Gorder, both of Estelline, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
