Berniece Orth Obituary
Berniece Orth, age 82, of Watertown, SD, passed away on August 16, 2015, at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown, with the love and support of her family. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Pastor Scott Dempster will officiate.
Music will be provided by Bertha Turnquist as organist.
The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Saturday by 10:30 a.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be prior to services on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Chapel. Burial will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
Berniece was born to Conrad and Wilhemina (Schmidt) Bauer on October 7, 1932, in rural Artas, near Eureka, SD.
She was raised and attended school in this area.
She was a kind, gentle, loving soul and approached life with a genuine smile and a happy heart.
Berniece was united in marriage on November 27, 1952, to the love of her life, Ervin Orth.
To this union one daughter, Barbara, was born.
Berniece and Ervin lived on his family's farm for eight years before moving to Fargo, ND, for one year. They then moved to Rapid City, SD, where they lived for 49 years.
After retiring they became "snowbirds" in Arizona.
They moved to Watertown in 2011 to be closer to Barb.
Berniece worked for Bell Telephone, had an in-home daycare, and was a sales associate at Three Sisters.
She finished her working career at JC Penney with 20 years of service.
In her active years, she was an avid bowler, enjoyed crafting, and was an excellent cook. Her favorite activity, however, was dancing with her husband Ervin.
In recent years, Berniece enjoyed many activities at her independent living facility and spending time with the residents.
Grateful for having shared Berniece's life is her husband of 62 years, Ervin, of Watertown; one daughter and son-in-law, Barb and Jeff Dunn, of Watertown;
two grandchildren: Kyle (Nicole) Dunn of Sioux Falls, SD, and Kristin Dunn and finance (George Stompolos) of West Hollywood, CA; one great-grandson, Braylon Dunn; one brother, Leo Bauer of Minneapolis, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers; and two sisters.
