Brian Kranz Obituary

Brian E. Kranz, age 80, of Goodwin, SD, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at the hospital in Watertown.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown.

Father Paul Rutten will be the celebrant.

Music will be provided by Danielle Holmquist-Holida as organist with Barbara Kranz as soloist, and the IC Funeral Choir.

The family is requested to meet at the church on Tuesday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service.



Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Tuesday.



Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Woody's Softball Team (10-12).

Active pallbearers will be Roger Kranz, Steve Zuhlsdorf, Tom Cordell, Tyler Kranz, Adam Kranz, and Isaac Engebretson.



Brian was born on November 4, 1934, in Bemis, SD, to Michael and Theresa (Byer) Kranz.

He attended school through the eighth grade at Hamlin #1 Country School.

He then helped around the family farm due to the illness of his father.

He farmed on the family farm and also worked at Hills Packing throughout his youth.



On July 6, 1963, Brian married Laretta Cordell at Immaculate Conception church in Watertown.

They purchased a farm near Bemis.

Brian also worked as a carpenter, and started his own family construction business in 1983.



He was a member of the Elks Club.

Brian loved the simple life; being outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, and farming.

He was also an avid softball fan and always went to watch his kids and grandkids play.

Brian is survived by his wife, Laretta, of Goodwin; two sons: Doug (Barbara) Kranz, and Mark (Angie) Kranz, both of Watertown, SD; six grandchildren: Tyler (Jennifer) Kranz, Adam Kranz, Ashley Kranz, Cassandra Kranz, Isaac Engebretson, and Connor Engebretson all of Watertown; two great grandchildren: Wyatt and Grayson Brendan; and one sister, Geneva (Frank) Cordell, of Watertown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Chelsey Lee Kranz; three brothers: Ruben, Jiles, and Stanley; and one sister, Jovita Zuhlsdorf.
