Bruce W. Hall, age 63, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2016, in Calvert City, KY. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Rev. Elmer Brinkman will officiate.
Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday and prior to services at the chapel on Wednesday.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Aaron Wright, Eric Christians, Jesse Martell, Amanda Schaaf and Emily Hall.
Bruce was born on July 3, 1953, in Mankato, MN, to William and Emily (Holbrook) Hall. He attended Union School and Franklin Junior High in Mankato, MN. In 1976, Bruce attended Midwest Coast Transport and graduated from truck driving school. In 2006, he returned to MCT and completed an Hours of Service Training, receiving a Training Certificate for Hazardous Materials. Bruce worked for various trucking companies and owned his own truck for a period of time. He continued trucking for 41 years and very often took his trucking buddy, Max, along.
Bruce married Patty Hall and to this marriage a daughter, Emily, was born.
In February of 2009, Bruce met his special friend and companion, Julie Schaaf. She had adopted her daughter Amanda just two months earlier. Bruce liked to boast that Julie adopted Amanda and then they both adopted him. After a few months Bruce often said that when he was 80 he was going to marry Amanda's mom. Bruce and Amanda had lots of fun talking and planning for that event.
He became a certified home daycare provider in 2009 to help care for his new "daughter" Amanda. Bruce also became a certified Girl Scout Leader when Amanda was a Girl Scout. He was always a very supportive and active daddy to Amanda. Bruce loved camping, boating and fishing. He made friends from varying walks of life that were very special to him. He loved his dog, Max, and his 2 cats, Meow-Meow and Kitty. Most of all he loved his family.
In February, 2015, Bruce had a 4-way bypass at Sanford Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Within the next six weeks Bruce had three more surgeries. These surgeries were very traumatic to Bruce, but when he was told that this would add 20 years onto his life he was ready for the marriage that would now be possible. When Julie's grandson, Tayden, was told of "Papa Bruce's" death, she told him he was in Heaven and he asked about going to the airport and taking the next airplane to Heaven to see him.
Bruce is survived by his children: Maranda Carnahan of Isanti, MN, Erin Bisson of Sabathus, ME, Jessica Heyn of MN, and Emily Hall of Aberdeen, SD; three brothers: Willy (Judy) Hall, Clarence (Sandy) Hall and Chuck (Becky) Hall, all of Mankato, MN; three sisters: Pamela Hall of New Ulm, MN, Tammy (Larry Hanson) Smith of Watertown, SD, and Pearl (Vance) Tadych of New Ulm, MN; his special friend, Julie Schaaf; Julie's children: Amanda "Shrimp" Schaaf, Aaron Wright and Eric Christians, all of Watertown, and Jesse Martell of Milbank, SD; Julie's three grandchildren: Tayden, Cheyenne and Mia; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-brother, David Hall.
