Delores Cook Obituary
Delores J. Cook, age 87, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at a care center in Watertown. She was the widow of Chester G. Cook. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Watertown. Rev. Carl Kline will officiate. Music will be provided by Kari Anderson as organist with Missy and Kari Anderson as vocalists. The family is requested to meet at the church on Saturday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be Delores' great-grandchildren: Jase Janssen, Jack Janssen, Cruz Russell, Dray Dahlgren, Heston Hill and Eden Hill and Rick (Neda) Ries, Wayne (Carol) Latt, Steve (Lisa) Janssen, Gareth (Sharla) Hamen, Mark (Marilyn) Arnold and Ed Brennan. Active pallbearers will be Delores' grandsons and great-grandsons: Tysen Cook, Brad Russell, Dustin Dahlgren, Jesse Janssen, Matt Hill, Braxtyn Rieffenberger and Camdyn Rieffenberger.
Delores was born on August 29, 1929, at Watertown, SD, to Elmer and Minnie (Tekrony) Kallemeyn. She attended rural country school in Hamlin County, SD.
On December 21, 1951, Delores married Chester G. Cook in rural Clear Lake, SD. The couple moved to their current farm, where Doug now lives, in 1954. They lived and farmed on this land their entire married life. Chester preceded her in death on December 17, 2000. Delores then moved to Watertown and in 2008, she moved into Castlewood Assisted Living and eventually moved to Watertown Care and Rehabilitation Center in February of 2016.
She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Watertown. She was also a member of the Stitcherettes. Delores enjoyed shopping, attending family events and going for drives. She looked forward to Sunday family breakfasts and visiting with her friends over a cup of coffee.
Delores is survived by one son, Doug (Cindy) Cook, of Watertown; four granddaughters: Nicole Rieffenberger (Brad Russell), Amy (Dustin) Dahlgren, Jamie (Jesse) Janssen and Andrea (Matt) Hill; eight great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter with another on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Brent; her parents; and one brother, John.
