Delores Sasse Obituary
Delores S. "Sonie" Sasse, age 78, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017, at her residence in Watertown. She was the widow of Edward "Ed" Sasse, Sr. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Pastor Rhonda Hanisch will officiate. The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Thursday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and prior to services at the chapel on Thursday.
Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Lorinda Cemetery near Henry, SD. Pallbearers will be Sonie's grandchildren: Andrea Sasse, Beth Sasse, Drew Sasse, Austin Sasse, Hunter Sasse and Page Ashby.
Sonie was born on January 13, 1939, at Watertown, SD, to Peter and Verena (Dally) Berkemo. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1957.
On December 26, 1959, Sonie married Edward "Ed" Sasse, Sr. at Henry, SD. Following their marriage, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Navy and Sonie raised the children in various parts of the United States. In 1975, Sonie began working at F & M Bank in Watertown where she worked for 25 years, retiring in 2000.
She enjoyed working in her large garden and preserving the fruits of her labor. She also enjoyed taking spontaneous trips with Ed, even making occasional stops at casinos along the way. Sonie thoroughly enjoyed 4th of July activities, including watching fireworks and making bonfires. Above all, she loved spending time with her family.
Sonie is survived by one son, Edward "Ed" Sasse, Jr. of Chester, SD; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Rita Sasse, of Harrisburg, SD; and two sisters, Karyn Becking of Florence, SD, and Aleta "Lou" White of Sioux Falls, SD.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; one son, David; one grandson, Zacary Sasse; and two brothers-in-law, Gordon White and Richard Becking.
