Edward Sasse Obituary
Edward L. "Ed" Sasse, age 76, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015, at a care center in Watertown.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 27, at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Rev. Kent Stillson will officiate.
The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Friday by 10:30 a.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and prior to services at the chapel on Friday.
Burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. in the Lorinda Cemetery, rural Henry, SD. Military graveside honors will be conducted by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion of Watertown and the Funeral Honors Team of the U.S. Navy.
Pallbearers will be Ed's grandchildren: Page Ashby, Andrea Sasse, Drew Sasse, Beth Sasse, Austin Sasse and Hunter Sasse.
Ed was born on November 12, 1938, on the Sasse homestead in rural Henry, SD, to Erwin L. and Elaine C. (Coan) Sasse. He attended and graduated from Henry High School.
Ed enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 15, 1955.
On December 26, 1959, Ed married Delores "Sonja" Berkemo at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Henry.
Ed served his country on eight ships and at two shore stations for a total of 20 years, retiring on January 9, 1975.
He attended the Electronics program at Lake Area Technical Institute and graduated in July of 1980.
Following graduation, Ed worked for two local heating businesses in Watertown.
He enjoyed doing service work on TVs and radios.
He also enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, gardening, canning and taking care of his yard.
Ed is survived by his wife, Sonie, of Watertown; one son, Edward L. Sasse, Jr., of Chester, SD; one daughter-in-law, Rita Sasse, of Harrisburg, SD; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Jim Sasse, of Wilmar, MN; and one sister, Beverly (Bob) Clark, of Unionville, IN.
He was preceded in death by one son, David; one grandson, Zachary; his parents; and one brother, Richard.
