Emma J. Wagner, age 99, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2016, at a local care center in Watertown. She was the widow of Walter "Pug" Wagner. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown. Fr. Ken Koster will be the celebrant. Music will be provided by Danielle Holmquist-Holida as organist with the Immaculate Conception Funeral Choir. The family is requested to meet at the church on Thursday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown. Active pallbearers will be: David Wagner, Pat Howey, Jim Berven, LaVerne McPeek, Doug Myers, Brad Johnson and James Wagner.
Emma was born on December 22, 1916, to Albert and Charlene (Gore) Donkersgoed, in Marine On St. Croix, MN. She graduated from high school in Lakeville, MN.
On October 29, 1937, Emma married Walter "Pug" Wagner, in Lakeville, MN. The couple lived in Watertown until 1941, when they moved to St. Paul, MN. They returned to Watertown in 1945. Emma and Walter ran the concession stand at the auditorium in Watertown and later at the Civic Arena, where they worked for many years. They also ran The Inn Café in Watertown as well. Emma later worked at the Immaculate Conception School in the lunch program. After Walter passed away in 1985, Emma continued to make her home in Watertown.
She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and also the Women's Sodality. Emma enjoyed quilting, knitting, reading and traveling to Alaska.
Emma is survived by her children: Robert (Carol) Wagner of Watertown, William Wagner of St. Paul, MN, John Wagner of Florida, Stanley Wagner of Roseville, MN, Joe Wagner of Fairbanks, AK, and Mary Jo Wagner and David Wagner, both of Watertown; four grandchildren: James Wagner, Karen Arnold, Forest Wagner and Tristan Wagner; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; one son, Richard; her parents; one brother; and one sister.
