Eugene Piorkowski Obituary
LouAnn A. Piorkowski, age 68, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018, at her residence. Eugene R. Piorkowski, age 70, of Watertown, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at a hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services for LouAnn and Eugene will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. The Reverend Marion Paulis will officiate. The family is requested to meet by 10:30 at the chapel on Wednesday for a family prayer service.
Visitation for the couple will be on Tuesday at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel from 4 to 7 p.m. and prior to services on Wednesday.
Burial will be at Pleasant Lutheran Cemetery, rural Vienna, SD. Military graveside honors for Eugene will be conducted by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Watertown, and the Funeral Honors Team of the U. S. Air Force.
Pallbearers for the couple will be: Mark Engebretson, Parker Piorkowski, Nathan Bjerke, Zack Shepherd and Jeff Binde.
Eugene was born in Stamford, CT, on September 11, 1947, to Eugene and Stella (Skiba) Piorkowski. He graduated from J.W. Wright Technical School in Stamford, CT. Following graduation, Eugene enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.
LouAnn was born in Vienna, SD, on April 7, 1949, to Arvid and Alice (Bossen) Raastad. She was a graduate of Webster High School, Webster, SD. LouAnn then attended Black Hills State University, where she met Eugene when he was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, SD.
Eugene and LouAnn were married on November 24, 1967, in Rapid City. After Eugene was honorably discharged from the service they moved back to Stamford, CT. Eugene worked as a mechanic for Toyota. LouAnn was a homemaker. In 1972 they moved to Watertown, where Eugene worked for Chrysler Auto and opened his own auto shop as well. LouAnn worked at Pamida, A&W, Ken's Fairway and then as a baker at Spies Super Valu for many years. In later years she worked for All-State Medical Products. Eugene continued running his own shop until his disability forced him to retire. LouAnn then retired as well and became Eugene's caretaker. They enjoyed spending time with family and their grandchildren.
Eugene and LouAnn are survived by their children: Liza (Nathan) Bjerke of Watertown, SD, Bob (Stephanie) Piorkowski of Statesville, NC, and Stella (Mark) Engebretson of Watertown, SD; 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; Eugene's brother, Donald Piorkowski of Watertown, SD; and LouAnn's brothers: Arlie (Joyce) Raastad of Madison, SD, Arnell (Joyce) Raastad of Watertown, SD, and David (Larisa) Raastad of Olympia, WA.
They were preceded in death by their parents; Eugene's brother, Tommy; and Eugene's sister, Sandra.
