Eugene L. "Gene" Tassler, age 66, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2015, at a hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
A Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 27, 2015, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown. The celebrant will be Fr. Paul Rutten. Music will be provided by Helen Gollnick as organist with the I. C. Funeral Choir.
The family is requested to meet at the church on Friday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Friday.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1054, and the Patriot Guard Riders.
Honorary pallbearers will be the VVA members.
Active pallbearers will be: Dave Jerpseth, Howard Shepherd, Don Reconnu and Randy Holiday.
Gene was born on December 9, 1948, in Watertown, SD, to Foerrest and Valesta (Purintun) Tassler.
He graduated from Watertown High School in 1967, and entered the U.S. Air Force shortly after.
On October 14, 1969, Gene married Joyce Bristow in Red Bluff, CA.
The couple moved to Duluth, MN.
He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force in 1971, as a Sergeant from the Vietnam War.
They moved to Watertown and he worked as a driver for A-OX Welding, moving into the district sales manager position, where he had worked for over 20 years.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge #838 of Watertown, and the local Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1054.
He was also a member of the trap shooting club and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.
Gene is survived by his loving wife, Joyce, of Watertown; one son, Michael Tassler, of Watertown; one daughter, Traci (Darin) Stein, of Watertown; six grandchildren: Jessica Stewart, Christopher Tassler, Austin Krause, Madeline Stein, Joshua Stein and Kayla Stein; two brothers: William (Janet) Tassler of Tacoma, WA, and Kenneth Tassler of Britton, SD; and two sisters: Virginia (Jim) Burdick of St. Charles, MO, and Sandra (Jack) Ward of Reno, NV.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Randy; and one infant sister, Aileen.
