Evelyn Johnson Obituary

Evelyn M. "Evie" Johnson, age 100, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2017, at a care center in

Watertown. She was the widow of Jonas Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 15, 2017, at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Watertown. Rev. Dan Ofstehage will officiate. Music will be provided by A. J. Sherrill as organist with Robbyn Givens and AnnRae Herr as vocalists and the church choir. The family is requested to meet at the church on Friday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service.





Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Friday.





Burial will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Pallbearers will be: Larry and Donna Muller, Terry and Suzanne Muller, Ray Muller, Phillip Johnson, Renae Green and Curt Jensen.





Memorials may be directed to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church - 2001 2nd St. NW, Watertown, SD 57201.





Evie was born on May 19, 1917, at Watertown, SD, to Hagbert S. and Alma S. (Swanson) Muller. She attended Watertown schools and graduated from Watertown High School in 1935. Evie worked at the Codington County court house until her marriage.





On August 3, 1941, Evie married Jonas E. Johnson at Watertown, SD. The couple lived in Madison, SD, for one year before returning to Watertown where Jonas and Evie raised their sons and lived the rest of their lives. Jonas passed away on February 4, 1975.





She was presently a member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, a former member of Grace Lutheran Church where she sang in the church choir for 75 years and a member of ‘Sons of Norway'. Evie loved quilting and cooking. She enjoyed crafting, golfing and attending sewing club. She was awarded ‘Volunteer of the Year' for the town of Watertown.





Evie is survived by two sons, Dennis (Okie) Johnson of Evergreen, CO, and Kermit Johnson of Watertown; four grandchildren: Jason Johnson, Jerrod Johnson, Molly (Randy) Malsam and Maggie (Matt) Nygaard; four great-grandchildren: Elliott Malsam, Dominic Malsam, Bethany Nygaard and Carleigh Nygaard; and one brother, Glenn Muller of Willits, CA.





She was preceded in death by her husband, Jonas; her parents; three brothers: Justus, Monie and Herbert Muller; and four sisters: Harriet Kittelson, Grace Van Dusen, Lorraine Keeney and Agnes Jensen.
