Harold Hlavacek Obituary
Harold H. Hlavacek, age 67, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2015, at a care center in Milbank, SD.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Rev. Gary Westgard will officiate.
The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Wednesday by 10:30 a.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will take place one hour prior to services at the chapel on Wednesday.
Burial will be at Dexter Cemetery in rural Florence, SD.
Honorary pallbearers will be the staff at Golden Living Center in Milbank.
Active pallbearers will be Jeremiah Peckenpaugh, Tom Schleis, Tanner Moss, Brad Flater, Paul Engman and Les Taken.
Harold was born on May 10, 1948, at Webster, SD, to Jess and Lucille (Halse) Hlavacek.
He was raised on a farm west of Florence.
Harold attended grades one through eight in Wallace, SD, and ninth grade in Florence. In 1964, he moved with his family to St. James, MN.
On October 30, 1966, Harold married Nancy Flater in Mt. Lake, MN. He was employed by the Scherr-Tumico Company, a manufacturing company specializing in precision measuring tools, for three years.
Harold and Nancy moved to South Dakota in 1968, where he worked for Quadee Rubber Company from 1968 to 1985.
Harold then drove semi for three years.
During that time, he purchased his own Ford semi in 1986.
He established ‘H & N Trucking' and owned and operated that business from 1988 to 2008.
In May of 2008, Harold entered the Wookey Assisted Living in Clark, SD, and in 2010, moved to Golden Living Center in Milbank, where he was presently residing.
He was a member of Pheasants Forever, the Elks, the Dexter Cemetery Association and the Minnesota Chapter Salt & Pepper Collectors.
Harold enjoyed hunting and fishing and he especially enjoyed antique shopping for unique salt & pepper shakers and cookie jars. Harold's favorite quote could have been, "A stranger is just a friend I haven't met yet", as he could visit like old friends with anyone that passed by.
Harold is survived by his son, Curt (Kim) Hlavacek, and Nancy Hlavacek all of Watertown; four grandchildren: Saylor Hlavacek, Jeremiah (Sandy) Peckenpaugh, Heidi (Tom) Schleis and Tanner Moss; five great-grandchildren: Behring, Emerson and Oliver Peckenpaugh and Evie and Asher Schleis; and three brothers: Dwayne Hlavacek of Florence, SD, Darwin (Lori) Hlavacek of Revillo, SD, and Harley (Rindi) Hlavacek of Faulkton, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Larry and Ron.
