Harold Kannas Obituary
Harold Kannas, age 90, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2014, at a local care center in Watertown.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2014, at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown.
Rev. John Carter and Rev. Paul Janke will officiate.
Music will be provided by Carol Janke as organist, and Rev. Paul Lindhorst as soloist.
The family is requested to meet at the church on Friday by 1:30 p.m. for a family prayer service.
Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and in the church on Friday prior to services.
Burial will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
Honorary pallbearers will be the staff and workers of the Wrage Unit at Jenkins Living Center.
Active pallbearers will be Allen Kannas, Wayne Kannas, Charles Kannas, Tim Byer, Terry Beynon, Steve Starnes, Rob Beynon, and Jim Czech.
Family has requested memorials to be directed to St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown.
Harold was born on July 16, 1924, to Emil and Dorothy (Ziesler) Kannas, at South Shore, SD.
He was confirmed in 1938, at St. Martin's and has been a lifelong member.
He attended country school in Watertown.
On November 28, 1944, Harold married Eunice L. Junso at St. Martins Lutheran Church in Watertown.
He served on the school board for Munger #4, and was trustee for six years at St. Martins.
He farmed at rural Watertown his entire lifetime.
Harold then retired in 1990.
Eunice passed away in 1994, just short of their 50th wedding anniversary.
Harold was an avid hunter and fisherman, hunting and fishing in South Dakota, Colorado, and Canada.
He has shot deer, elk, moose, and bear.
He was a very meticulous keeper of his equipment and vehicles.
Survivors include one daughter, Diane Ching, of Watertown; one daughter-in-law, Carol Kannas, of Valley Springs, SD; two sisters-in-law: Pamela Junso of Watertown, and Linda (John) Mills of Clark, SD; six grandchildren: Patrick (Alana) Ching, Lonnie Kannas, Kerry Kannas, Lori (Terry) Wiles, Mike Kannas, and Michele Ching; four great-grandsons: Jeremy Kannas, Trevor Kannas, Tyler Kannas, and Caden Ching.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Eunice; one son, Ronald; two brothers: Edward and William; and two sisters: Stella and Eleanor.
