Janice Plagens Obituary
Janice L. Plagens, age 89, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017, at the hospital in Watertown. She was the widow of Howard Plagens. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Rev. Janet Miller will officiate. Music will be provided by Judy Everson accompanied by Marcia Jelsma. The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Thursday by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 12 to 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the chapel.
Burial will take place at a later date at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
Janice was born on June 16, 1927, at Clark, SD, to Hendie Olie and Christina (Aaker) Pederson. She graduated from Clark High School.
On September 27, 1947, Janice married Howard Plagens at Luverne, MN. The couple lived on a farm southwest of Garden City, SD, until moving to Watertown in 1953. Janice worked at Midland National Life Insurance and retired from that job in 1976. After she and Howard retired, they spent their winters in Arizona. Howard preceded her in death on March 18, 2016.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Clark and a current member of Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown. Janice enjoyed sewing, working on crafts, playing cards and solving crossword puzzles. She adored her grandson, David.
Janice is survived by her daughter, Carol (Paul) Hinderaker, of Watertown; one grandson, David (Ashley) Hinderaker, of Omaha, NE; and one brother, Lowell Pederson, of Clark, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; her parents; three brothers; and four sisters.
