Jeanette (Mrs. Harold) HansenOctober 7, 1923 ~ June 16, 2017 (age 93)
Jeanette Hansen, age 93, of Watertown, SD, formerly of Henry, SD, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2017, at the hospital in Watertown. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Watertown. Pastor Kent Stillson will officiate. Music will be provided by A.J. Sherrill as organist with Duane and Char Peterson as vocalists. The family is requested to meet at the church on Tuesday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Monday from 4-7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
Burial will be at the Graceland Cemetery in rural Henry, SD. Pallbearers will be Jeanette’s grandchildren: Michael Hansen, Raymie Clemens, Rory Hansen, Eric Hansen, Matt Stender and Scott Stender.
Memorials may be made to the Graceland Cemetery.
Jeanette was born October 7, 1923, on a farm in rural Naples, SD, to Ingvald and Olena (Pederson) Christianson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Naples Lutheran Church. She later became a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown, and was a current member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Watertown. She attended school at South Elrod #56 and graduated from Henry High School in 1941 as Valedictorian. She then attended college at Northern State in Aberdeen for teaching. Following college, she taught school at several area rural schools and in Naples, SD.
On June 6, 1945, she was united in marriage to Harold Luverne Hansen, of Henry, SD, at the Naples Lutheran Church. They lived on the Hansen family farm in Graceland Township, rural Henry, until 2005, when they moved into Watertown.
Jeanette was active in many organizations. Some of the church organizations were Bible Study, Martha Circle, 60+ Group, Caring Committee, Sunday School, and was also a Vacation Bible School teacher. She was also a member of the Lefse Makers, Meals on Wheels, Buzzin Duzzin Extension Club, the Henry PTA and the Henryette’s. Jeanette and Harold helped organize Henry High School reunions, Graceland School reunions, Pederson and Enevoldsen family reunions, Henry Senior Citizens and assisted with several restorations at Graceland Cemetery and Church. In her spare time she liked traveling and vacationing.
Jeanette is survived by her husband, Harold, of Watertown; two daughters, Sharon (Chuck) Stender, of Colfax, WI, and Tanis Hansen (Roosevelt Toney), of Stockton, CA; two sons, Gary (Karen) Hansen, of Chatfield, MN, and Milan (Linda) Hansen, of Washington Court House, OH; two sisters, LaVonne (Darrell) Oleson, of Owatonna, MN, and Delores O’ Neill, of Watertown; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Norris Christianson; two sisters, Ilene Paulson and Clarice Severson; and one granddaughter-in-law, Farrah Stender.
