Larry D. Hagen, age 76, of Wallace, SD, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at his residence with his whole family at his side. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Wallace. Pastor Scott Dempster will officiate.
Music will be provided by Dorothy Anderson as organist with Patsy Flatten as soloist. The family is requested to meet at the church on Wednesday by 10:30 a.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Burial will be at St. Pauli Cemetery in rural Wallace. Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandchildren, Odin Adams and Jacob Dale and Lavern and Rose Schmig, Orville and Jan Johnson, the card players and their spouses, and Dave and Gwen Jesme.
Active pallbearers will be: Aaron Maurbjorn, Ross Dale, Josh Dale, Andrew Dale, Anthony Griepp, James Lefler, Brady Lefler and Stacy Lefler.
Memorials may be directed to the NSTA Foundation.
Larry was born on December 8, 1939, at Webster, SD, to Alfred M. and Thea L. (Jesme) Hagen.
He attended the first through the eighth grade at Ustrud School in Eden Township and graduated from Wallace High School in 1957.
Larry moved to Florence, AZ, and worked in construction on grain elevators and for Jack Swartz Construction.
He then moved to Webster and worked for Knight Construction.
On May 27, 1961, Larry married Judith M. "Judy" Haase at St. Pauli Lutheran Church in Wallace, SD.
Larry started farming in 1963 and together, he and Judy raised three wonderful children.
Following retirement, the couple wintered in Lake Havasu City, AZ, for the past 12 years. They celebrated 55 years together.
He held several offices as a member of St. Pauli Lutheran Church, the St. Pauli Cemetery Association and Calvary Lutheran Church.
Larry was on the ASCS Board and the Wallace Farmers' Elevator Board. He was also a member of the Codington County Pork Producers. Larry enjoyed putting puzzles together, playing cards, fishing and deer hunting.
Larry is survived by his wife, Judy, of Wallace; two daughters, Laurie (Larry) Griepp, of Watertown and Linda (Mike) Dale of Webster, SD; one son, Scot (Olive) Hagen, of Estelline, SD; five grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren, Odin Adams and Jacob Dale; and two brothers, Harlan Hagen of Watertown and Merlin Hagen of Wallace.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters-in-law, Mary Beth Hagen and Barbara Hagen; and two brothers-in-law, Gene Lefler and Clifford Tigner.
