Leona E. Gully, age 94, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at a local care center. She was the widow of Marvin Olson and Robert Gully. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown. Reverend Janet Miller and Pastor Scott Dempster will officiate. Music will be provided by Marcia Jelsma as organist and Judy Everson as soloist. The family is requested to meet at the church on Wednesday by 10:30 a.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Burial will be at the Pleasant Lutheran Cemetery in rural Vienna, SD. Pallbearers will be Leona's grandsons: Joshua Corbin, Kelly Youngs, Scott Olson, Aaron Jensen, Troy Jensen and Derek Jensen.
Leona was born on July 6, 1923, in Hamlin County, SD, to Edward and Theoline "Lena" (Torgerson) Wangen. She attended Bryant High School and graduated in 1943.
On October 25, 1943, Leona married Marvin Olson at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown, SD. They lived on a farm near Bryant, SD, and during this time Leona was one of the first employees at Parkview Care Center in Bryant. After the passing of her husband, Marvin, in 1971, Leona later moved to Watertown where she went to work at Minnesota Rubber and Memorial Hospital.
On June 7, 1975, Leona married Robert Gully and together they farmed near Willow Lake, SD. Robert passed away just five short years later in 1980. Leona moved back to Watertown. She worked at the Watertown Public Library until she was 85 years old.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown. Leona enjoyed playing cards, spending time with her family and her little trips "out North".
Leona is survived by two daughters, Rozann (Terry) Corbin of Worthing, SD, and Valerie (Randy) Jensen of Watertown, SD; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Leona was preceded in death by her two husbands; two sons, Lyle Olson and Neil Olson; one daughter, Marlene Howey; one brother, Robert Wangen; and three sisters: Violet Layton, Ruth Berg and Delores Berg.
