Lester Bronson Obituary

Lester Edward Bronson, age 92, of Watertown, SD, formerly Ortley, SD, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at a local care center.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at Hope Lutheran Church in Summit, SD.

Rev. Justin Neugebauer will officiate.

Music will be provided by Val Moen, organist, and DeVerne and Jan Rickard, vocalists.

The family is requested to meet at the church on Saturday by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service.







Visitation will be at Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Friday from 4-7 p.m. and will continue at the church on Saturday prior to the services.







Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery, rural Summit.

Military graveside honors will be provided by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Watertown, and Marine Corps League - Kampeska N.E. Det. #1079, Watertown.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lester's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers will be:

Troy Bronson, Ryan Bronson, Brett Sichmeller, Travis Sichmeller, and Casey Sichmeller.





The family prefers memorials to be directed to the pew fund at Hope Lutheran Church or the Lebanon Cemetery Fund.





Lester was born on October 22, 1922, in Webster, SD, to Oscar and Gusta (Amdahl) Bronson.

He was confirmed at Lebanon Lutheran Church.

Lester graduated from Summit High School.

Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Marines and was stationed in California.

He was an MP during the Rose Bowl Parade.





On February 2, 1946, Lester married Vivian Nelson, daughter of Alfred and Hildur Nelson, in Hawthorne, CA.

Following marriage they resided in California until Lester was discharged.

They moved to Blooming Valley Township, Grant County, SD, and farmed for many years.





Lester was a member of Lebanon Lutheran Church and later Hope Lutheran Church, where he served on various committees.

He was also a member of the Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Watertown.

Besides farming, Lester was an Adjuster for Federal Crop Insurance.

He enjoyed playing cards, visiting, hunting, and fishing.







Lester is survived by his children:

Gloria (Chuck) Sichmeller of Webster, SD, Debra Mills of Redfield, SD, and Leslie "Butch" (Tammy) Bronson of Watertown, SD; daughter-in-law, Karen Bronson (Jerome Koppi) of Beulah, ND; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Violet Bronson of Sioux Falls, SD.





He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian; two sons, Richard and Robert; his parents; one grandson, Chris Mills; one great-grandson, Luke Kessler; and one daughter-in-law, Cynthia Bronson.
