Margaret Ristow Obituary
Margaret O. Ristow, age 93, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at a care center in Watertown. She was the widow of Irvin Ristow. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Rev. Paul Janke will officiate. Music will be provided by Carol Janke with congregational singing. The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Saturday by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be at the chapel on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. and prior to services at the chapel on Saturday.
Burial will be at the Hazel Cemetery, rural Hazel, SD.
Pallbearers will be Margaret's grandsons: Jesse Ristow, Joshua Ristow and Virgil Green.
Margaret was born on July 10, 1923, at Hazel, SD, to Adolph L. and Elsie (Luken) Swanson. She graduated from Hazel High School.
On March 29, 1947, Margaret married Irvin Ristow at Hazel, SD. Margaret served as the Deputy Clerk of Courts from 1965 to 1978 and then was elected Codington County Register of Deeds, serving four terms from 1978 to 1993.
She was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown. She was also a member of Credit Women, the American Legion Auxiliary and the DAV Auxiliary. Margaret enjoyed cross-stitch and traveling with Irvin. He preceded her in death on March 9, 2004, and she continued to make her home in Watertown. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Margaret is survived by one daughter, Mary Ristow, of Santa Fe, NM; two grandsons, Jesse (Kimberly) Ristow and Joshua (Becca) Ristow; four great-grandchildren: Ryne, Ruby, Leila and James Ristow and one daughter-in-law, Gwen Ristow, all of Austin, TX; one nephew; and eight nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin; one son, Robert; and her parents.
