Millie Tilly Obituary

Millicent A. "Millie" Tilly, age 90, of Watertown, SD, passed away on September 7, 2017, at a local care center in Watertown.

She was the widow of Glenn L. Tilly.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown.

Rev. Paul Janke will officiate.

Music will be provided by Karen Livingston as organist with Sharon Renner as soloist.

The family is requested to meet at the church by 10 a.m. for a prayer service.

Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Monday from 4-7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.

Honorary pallbearers will be all of Millie's grandchildren.

Active pallbearers will be Robert Boettcher, Jacob Boettcher, Cody Berns, Brady Tilly, Daniel "Buck" Crouse and Daniel Voight.

Millie was born on April 7, 1927, in Ortonville, MN, to Charles and Amelia (Horstman) Billington.

She attended Corona High School and graduated as valedictorian with a class of five students.

Following high school, she attended Business College in Minneapolis, MN.

On July 28, 1946, Millie married Glenn L. Tilly at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown, SD.

The couple made their home in Watertown where they raised their family.

In 1957, she opened the Knit Nook, which has been a family business for over 60 years.

Many people would recall her sitting just inside the door knitting.

She was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church and Jean's and Jane's Square Dancing Club.

The couple enjoyed racing, and built and owned several different race cars.

After racing, the family continued working at Casino Speedway for 27 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting and teaching her skills to numerous people over the years.

She also enjoyed making wedding cakes for many couples. Millie and Glenn loved to travel.

They had made a visit to every state, along with a couple of trips to Europe and a few cruises as well. Millie was honored to be a 50 year customer of the LATI Cosmetology Dept.

Millie is survived by her children: Dean Tilly of Zimmerman, MN, Diana (Kenneth "Pinky") Berns of Watertown, SD, David (Teri) Tilly of Zimmerman, MN, Dennis Tilly of Watertown, SD, and a special daughter and friend, Dianne Drake, of Watertown, SD; 21 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren.

Millie was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
