Phyllis was born on December 27, 1923, to Oscar and Hazel (Urich) Fredrickson at their home west of Peever.

She was baptized and confirmed at the Peever Lutheran Church.

Phyllis attended country school until attending Peever High School.

On September 9, 1941, Phyllis married Ben Karst in Wilmot, SD.

They started their family in White Rock, SD, and then later moved to rural Peever.

Phyllis was active at Peever Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and participated in Ladies' Aid and many prayer groups.

Phyllis enjoyed starting quilting groups and being a member of the PTA where she led several plays.

She was an associate Postmistress at the Peever Post Office for several years and was involved with the local election board. She loved to cook and fried a lot of chicken for everyone.

She loved to crochet rugs and enjoyed making them for others her entire life.

Phyllis loved all of her children, grandchildren and all 101 of her immediate family members!

Some of our favorite foods that Mom made were homemade bread, lefse, chicken, fruit soup and cinnamon rolls.

Her home was always a welcoming place for whoever came to visit.

She also loved to play ‘Whist'.

After retirement, Ben and Phyllis became host and hostess at West Whitlock Resort in Gettysburg, SD.

Later they moved to Watertown, SD.

In 2007, Phyllis moved to the Tekakwitha Nursing Home until her death.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Karen (Ron) Erickson of Sundance, WY, Judy (Dennis) Nelson of Sisseton, SD, Paul Karst of Peever, SD, Ken (Bonnie) Karst of Watertown, SD, Jeff (Deb) Karst of Afton, WY, Rita Limahai of Waianai, HI, Carol Fitz of Volga, SD, Ernie (Rhonda) Karst of Castlewood, SD, and Pat (Marsha) Karst of Pierre, SD; 23 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
