Ruby Buri Obituary
Ruby V. Buri, age 95, of Hayti, SD, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2015, at Bethany Home in Brandon, SD.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2015, at the Kellerton United Methodist Church in rural Hazel, SD.
Pastor Mark Tracy will officiate.
Music will be provided by Judy Everson and Jordan Buri as soloists accompanied by Nona Clifford as organist. The eulogy will be given by Lynn Buri.
Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Burial will be at the Zion Kellerton Cemetery in rural Hazel, SD.
Active pallbearers will be Bob Buri, Cameron Buri, Dustin Buri, Jon Hofer, Jordan Buri and Kris Castelluzzo.
Ruby was born on February 4, 1920, in rural Hayti, SD, to Peter and Pearl (Prouty) Erickson.
She attended the Opdahl Township School.
On June 30, 1938, Ruby married Newton Buri in Clear Lake, SD.
She was a farm housewife for her entire life, until moving to Hayti in 1991.
After the move, Ruby and her sister, Bessie, worked together painting and wallpapering homes in the surrounding communities for several years.
She was active as the treasurer of the Kellerton United Methodist Women.
Ruby volunteered for the 60's plus dining in Hayti for many years.
She enjoyed solving crossword and Sudoku puzzels.
Ruby is survived by four sons: Jerry (Esther) Buri of Montgomery, TX, Lynn (Sandra) Buri of Scottsdale, AZ, Gayle (Sarina) Buri of Kansas City, MO, and Jan (Mary Ann) Buri of Brandon, SD; one daughter, Bonnie (Rich) Smith, of Baker City, OR; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Newton; two brothers: Frank and DeForest Erickson; four sisters: Blanch Jensen, Bessie Stolp, Dorothy Torgrude and Virginia Johnson.
