Vernon Singrey Obituary

Vernon H. Singrey, age 93, of Hazel, SD, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017, at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vienna, SD.

Rev. Brian Taffe and Pastor Scott Dempster will officiate.

Music will be provided by Dorothy Fuller as organist and Matt and Kristin Vandersnick as vocalists.

Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Tuesday, July 4, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Burial will be at Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery in rural Henry, SD.

Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon's great-grandchildren: Trevor Thue, Julia Vogt, Cameron Thue, Dylan Singrey, Katie Vogt, Connor Singrey, Preston Singrey, Rylan Thue, Sam Vogt, Caden Singrey, Adam Vogt, Bristol Goodall and Presley Goodall, Julian Hammery and Pastor Scott Dempster.

Active pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Crystal Thue, Jennifer Vogt, Aaron Singrey, David Schiefelbein, Joel Singrey, Katie Goodall and Bob Schiefelbein.

Vernon was born September 5, 1923, in rural Hazel, SD, to Glen and Frances (Hanthorn) Singrey.

He was a 1941 graduate of Hazel High School.

Following graduation, Vernon took a few business classes and then began farming with his father.



On February 5, 1950, he married Ruth Michaelson in Watertown, SD.

The couple made their home in rural Hazel where Vernon continued to farm.

Ruth passed away December 1, 1995.

On June 14, 1998, Vernon married Margaret Rider-Seaver at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in rural Henry, SD.

They continued to live on the farm until August of 2016 when Vernon moved into Cedar View in Watertown.

He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church for many years and held several offices as well as taught Sunday School. He was a current member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vienna, SD, and served on the Board of Lutheran Brotherhood.

Vernon enjoyed being a 4-H and Boy Scout leader.

His hobbies included gardening, lending a helping hand to his neighbors and most of all spending time with his family.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Rapid City, SD; his children, Harold (Renae) Singrey of Hazel, SD, and Marlene (Wayne) Schiefelbein of Adel, IA; Margaret's children, Edward (Davey) Seaver and Marlou Seaver all of Rapid City, SD; Margaret's daughter-in-law, Rhonda Seaver, of Rapid City, SD; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and his sister-in-law, Jeanette Singrey, of Hazel, SD.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; his parents; two brothers, Lyle Singrey and Donald Singrey; and Margaret's son, John Seaver.
