Veronica Rumpca Obituary
Veronica Rumpca, age 103, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2015, at a care center in Watertown.
She was the widow of Paul Rumpca.
A Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown.
The celebrant will be Fr. Paul Rutten.
Music will be provided by Danielle Holmquist-Holida as organist, Marie Coon as vocalist and the I. C. Funeral Choir.
The family is requested to meet the church on Tuesday by 9:30 a.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Scripture Wake Service followed by a Rosary.
Visitation will continue prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown.
Pallbearers will be Veronica's grandsons: Brian Rumpca, Tony Rumpca, Frank Rumpca, Paul Rumpca, David Rumpca and Wayne Hojnacke.
Veronica was born on December 31, 1911, at Webster, SD, to August and Julia (Oslowski) Block.
She grew up on the family farm near Grenville, SD.
On November 5, 1930, Veronica married Paul Rumpca at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grenville.
The couple farmed in the Waubay area until 1949 when they moved and continued to farm in Webster Township until their retirement in 1968.
Following their retirement, they moved to Watertown.
Veronica is survived by five sons: Bernard (Grace) Rumpca of Canby, OR, Paul Rumpca, Jr. of Florence, OR, Lavern Rumpca of La Pine, OR, Leo (Dolores) Rumpca of Ramsey, MN, and James (Diane) Rumpca of Watertown; three daughters: Adeline Larson of Aberdeen, SD, Genevieve Hojnacke of Madison, SD, and Melvina (Cliff) Terry of Bakersfield, CA; 32 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; one son, Urban; four grandchildren; her parents; eight brothers; and seven sisters.
