Wayne Elshere Obituary

Wayne M. Elshere, age 92, of South shore, SD, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2016, at a care center in Watertown, SD. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in South Shore. Rev. Ken Nelson will officiate. Music will be provided by Isabelle Nelson as organist with congregational singing. The family is requested to meet at the church on Thursday by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service.





Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Thursday.





Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in South Shore. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve (Debbie) Wartenbee, Bill Matthis, Wesley Snoozy, Kevin Snoozy, Jerry Elshere and Tom Meyer. Active pallbearers will be Robb Zimmel, Chad Christensen, Cody Jellis, Eric Magedanz, Andrew Magedanz, Russ Schinzing and Jonathan Hamilton.





Wayne was born on February 18, 1924, at South Shore, SD, to Milo and Amanda (Selchert) Elshere. He attended South Shore High School. He worked for South Shore Creamery and Dan Dugan Transport Company.





On June 15, 1947, Wayne married Maxine Schmeling at South Shore. He started working at Amoco Standard Oil where he worked for 36 years before developing his own bulk, spray and fertilizer company, ‘Elshere Bulk and Spray'. Wayne retired in 1997. Maxine preceded him in death in 2002. Wayne married Ruth (Eggebraaten) Meyer on July 19, 2003, at South Shore.





He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church for 70 years.

He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited and served on the South Shore School board. Wayne received several awards for his outstanding sales/service with Standard Oil. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends and his Black Labs.





Wayne is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Watertown; four children: Julaine (David) Christensen of Omaha NE, Diane (Eric) Strode of East Wenatchee, WA, Pam Elshere of Jasper, MN, and Laurie (Mike) Magedanz of Revillo, SD; two stepchildren, Sandy (Randy) Bouvette of Watertown and Tom (Dalita) Meyer of Aberdeen, SD; 12 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry (Kathy) Elshere, of Watertown; and one sister, Lois (Paul) Allyson, of Bull Head City, AZ.





He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine; his parents; two brothers and one sister.
