William Schutt Obituary

William J. "Bill" Schutt, age 74, of Watertown, SD,

passed away on February 2, 2016, at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown, surrounded by his family. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 5, 2016, at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown. Rev. Janet Miller will officiate. Music will be provided by Marcia Jelsma as organist with Judy Everson as soloist. The family is requested to meet at the church on Friday by 12:30 p.m. for a prayer service.





There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown, SD.





Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Military graveside honors will be conducted by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Watertown, and the Military Funeral Honors Team of the SD Army National Guard. Active pallbearers will be Bill Schutt, Chad Clausen, Chad Kettering and Dana Parish.





Bill was born on September 27, 1941, in Mitchell, SD, to James and Helen (McAfee) Schutt. He received his MS degree in Psychology from Washington State University and a BA degree in Psychology from Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN. As an Alcohol, Drug, Gambling and Mental Health Counselor, Bill practiced in Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota. He also went to Sweden and Norway and helped design their practicum programs.





On June 4, 1994, Bill married Carol (Belk) Kettering in Watertown, SD. They continued to live in Watertown, where he also had his practice.





He was a member of the Elks, Grace Lutheran Church, American Legion and Watertown Dance Club. He was a fan of Watertown Arrow sports, the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Gophers. William enjoyed traveling in Europe, going out for dinner, concerts and the theatre. He was an avid reader, movie collector, computer whiz and loved games. The love of his life was his wife, his family and his grandchildren (the apple of his eyes).





Bill is survived by his wife, Carol, of Watertown; his children: Bill (Jill) Schutt of Duluth, MN, Chad (Jennifer) Kettering of Andover, MN, Colette (Dana) Parish of Phoenix, AZ, and Christen (Chad) Clausen of Watertown, SD; one sister, Naomi Huston, of Eugene, OR; and four grandchildren: Sara Schutt, Faith Kettering, Carolann Clausen and Charlize Clausen.





He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lucille Schutt; three brothers: David, Irvin and Robert; and his beloved dog, Noah.
