Callie Eidsness, age 91, of Henry, SD, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2019, at a local care center.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vienna, SD.
Pastor Collin Beveridge will officiate.
Music will be provided by Dorothy Fuller as organist.
The family is requested to meet at the church on Saturday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service. Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Friday, October 4, 2019 from 5-7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery in Henry, SD.
Honorary pallbearers will be Callie's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be Travis Barthel, Jeff Barthel, Paul Eidsness, Tom Cypher, Harold Singrey, and Bryce Gjerde. Callie Lou Rider was born on June 13, 1928 to Raymond and Elizabeth (Bessie) Law Rider at their home on Red Coat creek southeast of Faith, SD along with twin brother Carol.
At the age of 9 years old, a Lutheran Pastor on horseback was traveling through and baptized her and her siblings. Callie went through the 5th grade in Faith and the family moved to a farm northwest of Hazel, SD.
She graduated from Hazel High in 1947.
She went to NSTC and taught at country schools for 6 years.
She worked in Sioux Falls, SD from 1951 - 1953 and came home to be with her parents as Carol went overseas in the Army.
Callie taught at Brantford #4 two years and went back to Sioux Falls, and worked at ZIP Feed Mill, New York Life Insurance and the Court House in the Auditors Office.
On June 9, 1956, Callie married Leif Eidsness at the Episcopal Church, in Watertown, SD. They lived at the Eidsness farm where they raised three children: Myron, Rebecca and Joseph. Callie was confirmed as an adult at Our Savior's Lutheran Church and then became a member along with being a member of the Women of the ELCA. She played the organ for 17 years and directed choir for several years in the church.
She enjoyed quilting for Lutheran World Relief with members of the church women. Callie enjoyed crossword puzzles, quilting, listening to the Minnesota Twins on her radio along with bird watching. Her greatest love was being with her grandchildren.
Callie is survived by her husband, Leif Eidsness; children: Myron (Diane) Eidsness of Henry, SD, Becky (Jeff) Barthel of Watertown, SD, and Joe (Sue) Eidsness of St. Louis, MO; 7 grandchildren: Matthew (Laura) Miller of Ft. Worth, TX, Laura (Jeremy) Bain of Sioux Falls, SD, Kailey (Matt) Miller of Bowling Green, OH, Travis (Lindsey) Barthel of Avon, SD, Elizabeth Barthel (fiancé Austin Mattson) of Moorhead, MN, Myles Garcia-Eidsness of St. Louis, MO and Sonja Nguyen of St. Louis, MO; 5 great-grandchildren: Ethan & Elijah Miller, Benjamin, Jedidiah, and Julia Barthel; sister in-law Marlene Nelson of Watertown, SD; along with several nieces and nephews. Callie is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Elizabeth "Bessie" Law Rider; twin brother, Carol Rider; sisters, Gail (Arlo) Eidsness and Margaret and her husbands Louis Seaver and Vernon Singrey.
