Clyde O. Hegge, age 82, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2019, at a local care center. Private family services will be held.
Clyde was born on September 12, 1936, to Alvin and Leona (Dickman) Hegge in Scotland, SD. At the age of nine the family moved to a farm near Henry, SD. He was a 1956 graduate of Henry High School. He worked construction before enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Clyde transferred to the Army Reserves and continued working construction. On August 7, 1958, Clyde was united in marriage to Mary Halling. Clyde was then recalled during the Berlin Crisis and was stationed at Fort Lewis, WA. He was honorably discharged after the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his discharge Clyde and his family moved to the Minneapolis, MN area where Clyde began his career as an iron worker. He graduated from Anoka Technical College, where he received his Certified Welding Degree. He was a member of the Iron Workers Local 512 union for over 30 years. After his retirement Clyde moved back to Watertown to be close to family.
He attended Cornerstone United Methodist Church and was a member of the NRA. His biggest joys were his Shih Tzu's, Baby and Boo, taking them for rides in his car. Clyde enjoyed hunting and fishing along with welding, woodworking and working on cars.
Clyde is survived by his children, Alan (Bonnie) Hegge of Watertown, SD and Jenny (Rhody) Davis of Tea, SD; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, James (Eileen) Hegge of Big Lake, MN; and two sisters, Judy Cordell of Watertown, SD and Gloria Hardy of Sioux Falls, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Claude James Hegge; his brother, Dale; and his brother-in-law, Milton Cordell.
